CUT DOWN ON SUGAR AND KEEP TEETH AND BODIES IN GREAT SHAPEDiet is more important in maintaining good oral health than you may think. It can prevent oral problems and keep your teeth looking healthy and strong. It is jot just important for children and mums-to-be but for all of us. Sugar contained in confectionery and sweetened carbonated drinks should be kept to a minimum. Dentists recommend that you avoid eating sugary food or drinks often and opt for healthier snacks instead.
Always check the labels on food and look out for:
glucose
sucrose dextrose lactose
fructose maltose
hydrolysed starch
honey
invert sugar
concentrated fruit juice.
These all mean sugar. Choose sugar free drinks such as:
Water or milk
Tea or coffee, unsweetened or use artificial sweeteners eg. Sweetex, Canderel.
Low calorie squash, diet fizzy drinks, occasionally - as these contain acid which may damage your teeth.
The more often you eat or drink anything containing sugar, the more likely your teeth are to decay.
